Hello Kitty Cafe Truck

By Katrina - January 21, 2023

With the popularity of the Hello Kitty Cafe in Irvine, California, two treat trucks have been put into circulation to spread the joy nationwide. These two trucks run on a preplanned schedule and hit up major cities selling some prepackaged desserts such as macarons and cookies, as well as merchandise like mugs, plushies, and tote bags.

The Hello Kitty Cafe truck was in my hometown today, and thinking it would be no big deal, and just something quick to do, we headed off to get to the truck by its opening hours, 10am.  If that’s your plan when the truck is in your hometown, change your plan. We were stunned by the amount of  people that were already in line as we arrived. The line wrapped around the entire parking lot! The wait ended up being close to 5 hours! My advice to you, get there early, and bring foldable chairs!

Thank goodness that my husband came with me because if it was just Sofia and I, we would have to leave. There was no way we would be able to wait 5 hours without getting food, and using the restroom. Sofia also had to get her energy out and played with some of the other kids in line. Her new outfit didn’t stay clean for long.

Sofia loved taking photos out in front of the truck. The truck itself is adorable. Every little details is super cute and Hello Kitty, down to the rims of the tires.  The prices of the treats and the merch…not so cute. The workers were updating us on some of the sold out items as it happened, but I have a feeling the plushies sold out way early and they kept it hush assuming people would leave early if they knew the plushies were gone. By the time we got to the front of the line and it was our turn, there were absolutely no plushies left.  Sofia chose a coinbank instead, and I panicked and forgot to get anything sweet to eat.

Overall it was a fun experience, and we got to meet other Hello Kitty loving fans. I would love to visit California and go to the actual cafe. I imagine that it’s adorable down to every tiny detail. If you are planning to visit the Hello Kitty cafe truck when it is in your hometown prepare yourself for a long wait unless you get there super early. I also recommend bringing something to sit on and entertain yourself with. We were lucky that we got to hang out at the mall while my husband stood in line and secured our spot, but I don’t think I could convince him to do that again.

Here is a look at what the menu looked like. I really regret not getting something sweet like a cookie or the macarons. Who knows, they could have been sold out by the time I got up to the front of the line. I was thinking about getting a lunch box for Sofia, but when I saw how tiny it was, I decided that it wasn't worth it for me.I could probably fit a total of 5 baby carrots into that lunch box. If I were to use it for something other than an actual lunchbox, it would be a super cute size.

I’m happy with what I ended up getting. It was definitely a change from what I initially thought I was going to end up getting, which was a plushie and some cookies, you know…no big deal. Instead I ended up with two of the big ticket items and a super cute sprinkles mug.

Do you plan to visit the Hello Kitty cafe truck?
